What We Do
Childcare
The William A. Hunton YMCA Learning Academy is a licensed childcare program that also provides before and after-school care serving youth ages 2 1/2 years - 12 years. The program is HEPA (Health, Education, and Physical Activity) compliant.
Our childcare and after-school programs prepare our kids to be successful in school. We maintain a close working relationship with the schools in our service area so that our kids may receive appropriate after-school assistance.
We provide affordable childcare and scholarship assistance so that low-income parents may obtain and maintain employment.
Community Recreation & Outreach
Youth, adults, and senior citizen’s health, education, recreation, and physical activity programs are available to the general public.
Through community partnerships with the Norfolk Redevelopment & Housing Authority, Old Dominion University, Norfolk State University, and Tidewater Community College we assist our residents to participate in a variety of educational programs that promote lifelong learning. We provide homework assistance to neighborhood youth.
By providing a safe and productive environment for those youth not enrolled in after school programs-we are providing the support our working parents are unable to give. Our adult and senior programs help low-income residents stay connected and not become isolated and housebound.
Youth Achievers
At-risk youth, participate in an array of life skills development programs offered by Hunton YMCA and other community groups through community partnerships. We help at-risk youth develop those social skills necessary to obtain and maintain future employment. Our program provides Homework assistance, academic Assistance, and Mentorship. We also monitor our kid’s performance.
